Oak Street Bridge History Project
The Hinsdale Historical Society is launching a special initiative called “Remembering Oak Street Bridge." The original Oak Street Bridge was first constructed in 1899 and modified in 1947 and 1962. The bridge was historically owned and maintained by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Corporation. In 2009, the BNSF conveyed ownership of the Oak Street Bridge to the Village of Hinsdale. This agreed transfer of ownership was contingent on the Village obtaining funding for the replacement of bridge. The old bridge served the Hinsdale community for over one hundred years. The Society is asking that anyone with photographs and/or personal anecdotes about the bridge to please consider sharing them with the Hinsdale Historical Society to be included in the existing archival collection on the Oak Street Bridge. Please send any photos or anecdotes to oakstreetbridge@HinsdaleHistory.org. The goal of the project is to share these images and stories of the Oak Street Bridge in a digital format via the web. The Hinsdale Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and promoting the history of Hinsdale.
